Root Barrier Sheet Material Improvement to Better Stop Root Intrusion

Our root barrier sheet material is a popular solution to keep the roots or a tree or shrub from penetrating and weakening pavements, driveways, walls, or building foundations. We recently made a switch with out root barrier sheet material, moving from a product manufactured from HIPP to one made from HDPE (containing 50% recycled materials in both cases). The product has a similar appearance and technical performance with one important difference: the HDPE is more flexible than the previous material, and more resistant to some of the more aggressive roots, like that of bamboo.

Another difference is the method by which the panels are joined; where you would previously use connectors between sheets of the material, now they can be joined by simply overlapping the ends and stapling or adhering them together. A popular product in California especially, we are excited to hear how this change in material improves performance and extends the life of the product.

Root barrier sheet material describes part numbers SM-1220, SM-1820, SM-2420. Specifications for this product can be found on the Root Barrier Page.
