Department of Veterans Affairs (National Cemetery Administration
Covering 114 hallowed green acres, Los Angeles National Cemetery is home to more than 80,000 identical headstones of interred war veterans. Dedicated in 1889 and managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the cemetery serves as the final resting place of war veterans from the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I & II, the Korean War, and several other American conflicts.
After bearing the weight of 80,000 headstones and heavy landscape equipment for several decades, the soil of the cemetery had gradually settled. The settlement destabilized the ground, causing the headstones to sink at varied angles. In an attempt to restore the symmetry of the cemetery while remaining sensitive to its residents, Dial Engineering desired to use a product that was effective, minimally invasive and blended naturally into the environment.
Initially, Dial Engineering installed another product to test its effectiveness. Disappointed with the result, they sought an alternative. They found their solution in NDS EZ Roll Grass Paver. Upon first installation, they were pleased with the outcome and decided to complete the project with NDS product. They chose EZ Roll Grass Paver because they found the product significantly sturdier, easier to install and of a higher quality construction compared to the competition.
Made of 100% recycled plastic, EZ Roll Grass Paver is a sustainable landscape stabilization product that works by protecting the root zone and preventing soil compaction. Designed to withstand heavy vehicular traffic, EZ Roll Grass Paver goes beyond the needs of cemeteries dealing with the effects of ground destabilization. With a compressive strength of 57,890 psf, NDS EZ Roll Grass Paver is as strong as concrete and requires up to 50% less maintenance than alternative solutions.
Dial Engineering was impressed with the continued project support they received from NDS throughout the installation process. NDS EZ Roll Grass Paver exceeded Dial Engineering's expectations, so much so that they plan to continue their successful use of EZ Roll Grass Paver at two future national cemetery projects.
