Q: Is the NDS Universal Locking Mechanism durable?
A: Yes, it is made of tough polymer plastic, the same material as our boxes, and designed to withstand years of use and outdoor conditions.
Q: What size fasteners can I use with the Universal Locking Mechanism to secure my valve box cover?
A: Most common bolts and screws will work well with the Universal Locking Mechanism. If electing to use a speed nut (not included), the threads must match between the bolt and speed nut.
Q: The bolt I inserted continues to spin—does this mean the Universal Locking Mechanism is stripped?
A: No, the Universal Locking Mechanism is not a traditional nut and does not have threads to strip. Rest assured the spinning bolt is not an indication of stripping.
Q: How does the bolt stay in place without a nut?
A: The Universal Locking Mechanism's design utilizes spring action to retain the bolt in place and features self-healing technology to maintain its structural integrity after each installation.
Q: How will the Universal Locking Mechanism withstand UV degradation?
A: This device is molded into the valve box and contains the same UV inhibitors as all NDS valve boxes to prevent cracking.
Q: Can I still secure the valve box cover using a traditional bolt and nut?
A: Yes. NDS valve boxes containing the ULM also come equipped with a landing slot for a speed nut which provides an alternate way to fasten the cover.
