In late 2021, a wellness center in Thibodaux, LA, broke ground on a sports complex, kicking off phase two of an expansion project. To limit runoff and meet city guidelines for stormwater infiltration, the designer was looking for an alternative to traditional pavement for an 11,000 sq. ft. emergency vehicle access lane. Reinforced grass pavers were quickly identified as the best choice because they are capable of handling heavier loads while also reducing runoff.

A diesel fueling station for class 8 commercial vehicles was being added to a convenience store company’s gas station and food market in Clarksboro, NJ. They expected heavy traffic thanks to its hours, location and convenience store setup. The project specifier needed a drainage solution for several new paved areas that could hold loads of commercial vehicles and tractor trailers weighing upwards of 33,000 lbs.

A horticultural garden in PA renowned for its collection of some of the most beautiful plants and landscape designs in the world consists of hundreds of acres of horticultural gardens and woods that transform each season, drawing hundreds of thousands to its beautiful oasis. In February of 2023, the organization made the decision to incorporate a multi-acre expansion on the property. NDS was contacted by the specifying engineer to develop a drainage solution that would capture the sheet flow from the new walkway and staircases in an effort to stave off any water pooling.

An existing single-family residence nestled on a beautiful waterfront property on the Ponce Inlet in Florida was going through a remodel and expansion. County regulations required new stormwater storage – primarily roof and hardscape drainage. The contractor reached out to NDS to determine the best possible drainage solution for the homeowner, who wanted a system that was aesthetically pleasing and would complement the landscape and atmosphere of the yard.

In addition, the team wanted to ensure the lot would be low-maintenance and made of environmentally friendly materials.

The planned location of the new maintenance facility would cause a significant issue with stormwater runoff. The project’s designated civil engineer determined a subsurface detention system was a must, so after thoroughly reviewing a number of options, reached out to the contractor who recommended NDS.

County Administration Complex, Greenville, SC

A city in South Carolina designed and built a new administration complex to replace their old, outdated office building. With two five-story towers connected by a bridge, the new complex includes several state-of-the-art interior and exterior design elements. Near the building’s entrance, there is a quad-shaped surface area with a large lawn in front. The sidewalk leading to the facility was not adequate to accommodate rescue vehicles in the event of an emergency, so landscape architects from a renowned design firm designed a grass fire lane using NDS EZ Roll® permeable pavers.

This specialized program requires that they go through mandatory “live burn” drills, which means the firefighters learn how to handle extreme situations such as aircraft fires and emergency evacuations.
