Follow These Five Tips to Help Make Your Stormwater Project a Success

Now that you’ve added stormwater management services to your business, it’s important to be fully prepared. Here are our five must-dos before tackling a new drainage project:

  1. Calculate runoff – Save time figuring out runoff rates, volume or the size and type of drain needed using NDS calculators on the NDSpro.com website. Each calculator guides you step by step—just plug in your variables and it’ll do the math for you.

  2. Order all product – Work with your distributor to ensure all product is available for pickup or delivery to the site. Double check that you have all components needed and remember that drainage is a system that likely requires more than just a capturing device. Be sure you also have needed pipes, accessories, grates, and emitters.

  3. Gather tools – Almost all drainage projects require the use of specific tools and equipment. Most frequently, you’ll need items like a hammer, shovel, level and silicone. However, some jobs may require the rental of special equipment like concrete saws or trenching machines so reserve those in advance.

  4. Check local regulations – Different areas have different stormwater requirements so double check township, city or state stormwater design manuals and familiarize yourself with local policies as needed. Several locations have dedicated stormwater staff who you can consult if you have questions.

  5. Know what’s below – Before doing any digging, call 811, the national phone number established to ensure a yard gets marked with the approximate location of buried utilities.
